Tear-out
Old counters and backsplash removed carefully so the cabinets and walls underneath survive.
Countertops & tile · Burnaby, BC
New counters and a tiled backsplash change a kitchen faster than anything else. We template, install, set the sink and tile it in one coordinated job.
Counters and backsplash are usually ordered from two different companies, and the homeowner ends up in the middle: the fabricator won’t disconnect the sink, the tiler can’t start until the counters are in, and nobody reconnects the faucet. We handle the whole sequence.
We take the old counters out, check that the cabinets underneath are level (stone cracks over uneven boxes), have the new counters templated and installed, set and reconnect the sink and faucet, and then tile the backsplash. One schedule, one crew to call.
If you’re not sure what to choose, we’ll bring samples and talk through how each material handles real kitchen life: hot pans, red wine, kids and knives.

How the common choices hold up in a working kitchen.
| Material | Durability | Care | Look |
|---|---|---|---|
| Quartz | Very hard and non-porous; avoid direct high heat | Wipe clean, no sealing | Consistent patterns, marble-look options |
| Granite | Very hard and heat-tolerant | Seal periodically | Natural, every slab different |
| Solid surface | Softer; scratches can be sanded out | Easy, seamless sinks possible | Smooth, matte, uniform |
| Laminate | Good for the money; edges can chip, no hot pans | Easy | Many patterns, thinner profile |
| Butcher block | Warm and repairable; needs care near the sink | Oil regularly | Natural wood, great for islands |

In Burnaby
In Metrotown and Brentwood towers, getting a quartz slab to the kitchen is part of the job: the strata usually wants the service elevator booked and padded, and some buildings limit slab sizes in the elevator. We plan seams and deliveries around that before the counters are ordered.
Backsplash work in condos is quiet compared to demolition, which makes it one of the easiest upgrades to schedule inside strata noise hours.
How it works
We come to your home, measure, and listen to what works and what doesn’t.
Layout options, then cabinets, counters, tile, lighting and hardware chosen together.
City permits where needed, strata approval for condos, and a hazardous-materials check for older homes.
One project lead runs demolition, trades, cabinets, counters, tile and finishing to the schedule.
We go through every door, drawer and fixture with you and fix anything that isn’t right.
FAQ
Both are excellent. Quartz needs no sealing and gives a consistent look; granite handles heat better and every slab is unique. We’ll bring samples of both.
No, as long as the cabinets are solid and level. We check and shim them before templating. If a box is water-damaged under the sink, we fix or replace that one first.
Typically about one to two weeks, depending on the material and the fabricator’s schedule. Your date is set in the plan.
Sometimes, but we usually recommend removing it. Tiling over old tile adds depth that throws off outlets and the edge where the tile meets the upper cabinets.
