FAQ

Kitchen Renovation Questions, Answered

Cost, permits, timing, condos and installs: the questions Burnaby homeowners ask most.

Cost & quotes

How much does a kitchen renovation cost in Burnaby?

It depends on the scope more than the size. A cabinet refresh and new counters is a very different job from a full remodel that moves walls and plumbing. The biggest drivers are layout changes, cabinet type, counter material and, in older homes, what’s behind the walls. After a visit we give you a written quote at no cost. The cost guide explains each factor.

Can I renovate my kitchen on a budget?

Yes. Keeping the layout, refacing or painting solid cabinets and putting the money into counters, backsplash and lighting changes a kitchen a lot for less. Tell us your priorities and we’ll suggest where to spend and where to save.

Is the quote really free?

Yes. The visit, measure and written quote cost nothing and come with no obligation.

Why don’t you show prices on the website?

Because a number without your kitchen in front of us would be a guess. A written quote after a visit is accurate, and it’s free.

Planning & permits

How long does a kitchen renovation take?

A refresh usually takes one to two weeks on site, a condo remodel about three to five, and a house with layout changes about six to ten. Design, approvals and cabinet lead time come first. See the timeline guide.

Do I need a permit to renovate my kitchen in Burnaby?

It depends on the work. The City of Burnaby says replacing fixtures, cabinets and flooring and interior painting don’t need a permit. Taking down or building walls is an alteration that does, and plumbing, gas or electrical changes in a house need trade permits. The permits guide covers the details.

Does my older Burnaby home need asbestos testing?

If the renovation will disturb walls, ceilings or flooring, yes. WorkSafeBC’s regulation requires a qualified person to inspect for hazardous materials before renovation work begins, and it doesn’t set a cut-off year. Homes built before about 1990 are the most likely to have asbestos in drywall compound, ceiling texture or flooring.

Can I keep my existing cabinets or layout?

Often, yes. If the boxes are solid and the layout works, refacing or painting and new counters can give you a new kitchen without starting over.

Condos, design & installs

Do you work in condos and townhouses?

Yes, a lot. We help with the strata alteration request, book elevators, protect common areas and work inside the building’s quiet hours.

Do you install IKEA kitchens?

Yes, including kitchens you planned and bought yourself. We assemble, install, level and fit them, and coordinate counters and hookups.

Do you help with kitchen design?

Yes. We draw layout options and help you choose cabinets, counters, tile and lighting together. If you already have a plan, we check it and build it.

Which areas do you serve?

All of Burnaby, plus Vancouver, New Westminster, Coquitlam, Port Moody, North Vancouver, Richmond, Port Coquitlam and Surrey. See service areas.
