Family kitchens
More storage, more counter space and seating for everyone.
Detached homes · South Slope, Burnaby
Kitchen remodels, cabinets, countertops and backsplash for South Slope homes, planned clearly and built by one team.
South Slope runs down Burnaby’s southern hillside toward the Fraser River, with streets of family homes and views to the south.
Expect post-war bungalows, 1970s Vancouver Specials and newer rebuilds, often with basement suites. Many kitchens need to work for a big family, and some homes have two.
Many houses in South Slope were built between the 1940s and the 1980s, and their kitchens show it: closed off from the dining room, short on outlets and lit by a single fixture. These are the most rewarding kitchens to renovate, because a better layout changes how the whole main floor works.
In older homes we plan the permits and safety checks before demolition. The City of Burnaby treats taking down or building walls as an alteration that needs a permit, plumbing and electrical changes need trade permits, and WorkSafeBC requires a qualified person to check for hazardous materials such as asbestos before renovation work starts.
Services
Local know-how
More storage, more counter space and seating for everyone.
Durable, efficient kitchens for basement suites.
Opening the upstairs kitchen to the living space.
New layouts, cabinets, counters and lighting.
South Slope homes often work hard: a family upstairs, a suite downstairs, and two kitchens that both see daily use. We plan durable finishes that stand up to it, from quartz counters to hard-wearing cabinet doors, and schedule work so the household keeps at least one working kitchen whenever possible. Combining both kitchens in one project usually saves time on trades and inspections.

FAQ
It depends on the scope. Replacing cabinets, fixtures and flooring doesn’t need a City of Burnaby permit, but taking down walls does, and plumbing, gas or electrical changes in a house need trade permits.
If walls, ceilings or flooring will be disturbed, WorkSafeBC requires a qualified person to check for hazardous materials before the work starts. Homes built before about 1990 are the most likely to have them.
Usually. Load-bearing walls need an engineered beam and a permit, and any pipes or ducts inside the wall are rerouted. We check before we design.
